Amos addresses a prosperous society that worships enthusiastically while exploiting the poor. Judgment falls on neighboring nations and on Israel itself; election is a responsibility, not immunity from accountability. The prophet exposes luxury built on another person’s suffering. A final promise of restoration keeps judgment from being the last word, but hope never makes injustice unimportant.
